First impressions: First of all, cooking this one is a multistage process which ends up taking twelve and a half minutes. So, if you’ve got a 30 minute lunchbreak, this one probably isn’t for you. Secondly, it comes out of the microwave looking… well, look at it. It’s the very picture of the stereotypical horrible frozen meal that looks nothing like the box art. However, it smells really, really good, so it’s got that going for it.
Gustatory impressions: Wow, this is surprisingly good! Once you cut into what looks like a weird mass of tomato sauce with a few blobs of cheese, you get to the noodles and the cheese mixture. The noodles, as always, are a tad overdone, but not much. The cheese tastes GREAT. I mean, for a Lean Cuisine. I’m a huge fan of cheese and there is definitely enough here to satisfy. The sauce is typical tomato sauce, nothing special but not in the least objectionable, either.
Summary: I was not expecting to like this one, and yet, I did. It’s quite filling, and for 350 calories, it should be. I don’t usually like frozen lasagna, as it’s one of the few things I actually cook quite well myself, but this one is fine. It’s no substitute for homemade, but it’s definitely a good swap for some of the other frozen lasagnas I’ve had. And this is another meatless meal, if you’re looking for good ones that meet that criteria. It’s not exciting, but it’s pretty tasty. All in all, nicely done, Lean Cuisine!
